Double overtime not kind to CU
WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma (February 6) – The Cameron Aggies (10-11, 0-7 LSC-N) fell short, 80-75, in a double-overtime thriller to the host Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (9-13, 3-4 LSC-N) today in Weatherford. Despite the close game, the Aggies have now dropped 7 in a row in Lone Star Conference North Division play with only 5 games remaining in the season.
“We battled hard again and played a tough game. We really have to play perfect or else one small mistake will get magnified.” Head Coach Wade Alexander said. “Right now we are executing and it’s keeping us in games. As long as we continue to do that then we’ll get somebody.”
The Aggies fell behind early off of the stellar three-point shooting by Southwestern who hit 6-11 from behind the arc in the first half.
After a brief 17-17 tie midway through the half, the Aggies would trail at halftime 31-23.
Cameron took their first lead of the game at the 11:21 mark in the second half when Kallan Glasgow hit two free throws, but the end of regulation resulted in a 62-62 tie.
After the first overtime period, the two teams were deadlocked again 69-69. SWOSU would eventually finish off the Aggies outscoring them 11-6 in the second overtime, resulting in an 80-75 victory.
“We battled hard tonight but everyone started to foul out towards the end. We eventually just ran out of gas. Now we’ll take a couple days off and rest. At this point of the season we know what we’re doing, we just need to get our legs back.” Coach Alexander said.
Glasgow would lead all scorers with 26 and Milton Garner added 21. Junior guard Jacques Williams helped out with 11 points as well.
Senior forward Jamaar Burke also had a good game with 8 points and team-high 12 rebounds.
The Aggie men will have a bye this week and continue in action next Saturday (February 13) when they travel to Edmond to play against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Scheduled tip off time is 8:00pm.
