Webb nets Texas standout for '09-'10
LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 10) – Cameron head women’s basketball coach Tom Webb proved this week that recruiting is truly a year-round process as he added Texas high school standout Alexis Williams for the 2009-2010 season. Williams is a 5’8” guard from Ronald Reagan High School (San Antonio, Texas) who will be a freshman on next year’s squad. Webb’s signing of Williams is his first for next season.
“We are very pleased to sign Alexis; she is a complete player,” Coach Webb said. “She can get to rim well, shoot the midrange jumper well, and shoot the three-pointer.”
Throughout her tenure with the RRHS Rattlers, Williams has averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game for head coach Terry Barton. She has also posted a 68% free throw percentage and a 30% three-point percentage for RRHS.
“We expect Alexis to come in and make an impact on our team at the two and the three (positions),” Coach Webb said. “There will definitely be opportunities for her. Alexis comes from a great family where athletics and academics are both very important.”
Each of the last two seasons Williams was named to the All-District First Team as well as the All-District Academic Team. She was also a standout for the RRHS track team and played for the Team Xpress club women’s basketball team during the last few summers.
Additionally, Williams is an impressive student as she currently holds a 3.9 grade point average (GPA). She will be a freshman education major when she begins classes at CU next fall.
“Alexis is a student-athlete that will make our campus very proud,” Coach Webb said. “We are looking forward to having her at CU next fall.”
Cameron’s women’s basketball team (4-3, 0-0 LSC) hosts the Angelo State University Rambelles next Monday (December 15) at 6:00pm in the Aggie Gym.
