Aggie golfers move up in Golfstat rankings
LAWTON, Okla. (April 23) - A recent string of solid play has paid dividends for the Cameron University men's golf team. The Aggies have moved up to No. 20 in the latest NCAA Division II head-to-head standings copiled by Golfstat. The statistical rankings, which were posted on Tuesday on the Golfstat website (www.golfstat.com) list Coach Jerry Hrnciar's squad with a 155-22 record in head-to-head competition against Division II opponents this season. Cameron has finished no worse than ninth in eight tournament appearances this season, including Top 4 finishes in each of the last four events. The Aggies finished tied for fourth at this week's Lone Star Conference Championships and tied for second at the annual UCO/Kickingbird Classic earlier this month. Cameron's only tournament victory of the season came on April 1 at the West Texas A&M Invitational in Amarillo. South Carolina-Aiken tops the Division II standings with an eye-popping 176-1 record against division foes this season. The head-to-head rankings are compiled using tournament results submitted to the Golfstat staff. Finishing ahead of another team in a tournament counts as a head-to-head victory, while finishing below an opponent counts as a loss. Of the 903 eligible tournaments at all levels this season, 866 have reported results to Golfstat, giving the rankings an accuracy rate of 96 percent. Cameron is scheduled to begin postseason play next month with a trip to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships. The top eight teams in the region will compete at the event, which is scheduled for May 4-7, at Turtle Point Country Club in Florence, Ala. The winner of the regional tournament will receive an automatic berth in the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championships, set for May 18-23, at the Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore.
