Hatch named to Academic All-District team

LAWTON, Okla. (May 8) - Cameron University softball player Karren Hatch has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VI Softball First Team, following voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of Mesa, Ariz., and transfer from Eastern Arizona Junior College, Hatch finished the season as Cameron's leader in hits (56), doubles (11), triples (3), run scored (29) and stolen bases (8). She also recorded a .960 fielding percentage from her spot as the Aggies' starting shortstop. In two seasons at Cameron, Hatch started every game.
"This shows what a complete player Karren is on the field and off," Cameron head coach Gladys Crawford said. "The Cameron softball program takes pride in the fact that we have a very good track record of producing degree candidates and quality student-athletes."
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, players are nominated by their institution's sports information director and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The nominee must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the nominating institution and must have completed one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games in the position they are nominated. CoSIDA's District VI is comprised of member institutions in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The All-Distrcit teams are further divided into a University Division (NCAA Division I and I-AA schools) and a College Division (NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools).
As a first team all-district selection, Hatch will go on to receive consideration for Academic All-American, which is voted upon by a national committee. The College Division Softball Academic All-American team is scheduled to be announced on May 29.
