Cameron's Hatch earns LSC North academic honors
RICHARDSON, Texas (May 14) - Chalk up academic all-conference honors to the growing list of postseason awards for Cameron softball player Karren Hatch. The 5-7 shortstop from Mesa, Ariz., has been selected to the Lone Star Conference North Division Softball All-Academic team, following voting by the league's sports information directors. Hatch was one of 10 players selected to the team, which was announced Wednesday by conference officials.
In addition to her efforts in the classroom, Hatch finished the 2003 season as Cameron's leader in total hits (56), doubles (11), triples (3), run scored (29) and stolen bases (8). She also recorded a .960 fielding percentage, earning first team all-conference honors in the Lone Star Conference North Division. She also ranked among the conference leaders with a .373 batting average. As a junior in 2002, Hatch led the Aggies in hits, runs, doubles, triples and stolen bases while earning all-conference honorable mention. Earlier this month, she was named to the Verizon Academic All-District VI Softball First Team and is currently under consideration for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced later this month.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 grade point average with a minimum of 24 hours at the nominating institution. Student-athletes must also be eligible to receive a varsity 'letter' from the nominating institution in order to be nominated for conference academic honors. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of academic and athletic achievement.
