Kosick earns LSC North Offensive Player of the Week honors

RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 3) -- Cameron University senior volleyball player Kelsey Kosick wasted no time in showing why she was selected as the preseason Player of the Year in the Lone Star Conference North Division. The 5-11 outside hitter has been selected as the 2003 season's first LSC North Offensive Player of the Week.
A native of Fort St. John, British Columbia and three-year member of the Aggie squad, Kosick earned the award for her role in Cameron's 2-2 showing at last week's Comanche County Memorial Hospital/Red Lion Inn First Serve Invitational. The bruising outside hitter averaged 4.93 kills per game and hit .293 over the four matches, leading Cameron in both categories. In Thursday's season-opener against conference rival Angelo State, Kosick hit .444 with 24 kills and eight service aces (one shy of the team record), to lead the Aggies to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Rambelles. In a loss to 21st-ranked Central Missouri State on Saturday, she collected 18 kills and hit .351. For the week, Kosick totaled 69 kills, 41 digs and 19 service aces in 14 games.
Kosick was named the LSC North Hitter of the Week three times last season, en route to her selection as the 2002 LSC North Division Offensive Player of the Year. She led all conference players and ranked 28th in the nation in service aces per game last year and was second in the league and 17th nationally in kills per game, establishing single-season school records in both categories.
Kosick and the Aggies are scheduled to return to action on Friday, when they travel to Denver to take part in the annual Colorado Premier Challenge on the campuses of Metro State and Regis University. Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies will take on 10th-ranked North Dakota State at noon (MT) on Friday, before facing 15th-ranked Metro State at 3:30. Cameron will conclude the event with two matches on Saturday.
