Aggies rally to win Oklahoma Intercollegiate
Garrett, Seals share medalist honors
LAWTON, Okla. -- Cameron junior Collin Garrett rolled in a 45-foot birdie putt on the final hole of his second round in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate golf tournament. In Tuesday's final round at the Lawton Country Club, Garrett picked up right where he left off. The Walters native birdied his first four holes on Tuesday and fired a tournament-low round of 65, helping the Aggies overcome a 12-stroke deficit to claim the team title in the event. Garrett and teammate Kolby Seals shared medalist honors, each finishing the three-round tournament with a 4-under-par total of 209. Cameron finished with a total of 846 to edge Central Oklahoma by five strokes in the varsity division team standings. Southwestern Oklahoma, which led after two rounds, turned in a final-round 302 to slip to third. West Texas A&M was fourth. Garrett's round highlighted a solid team effort by the Aggies in the final round. With four birdies already on his card, Garrett eagled the par-5 sixth hole and made the turn at six-under. Another birdie at No. 12 pushed it to 7-under and Garrett played a nearly bogey-free round. An errant tee shot on the final hole jeopardized Garrett's medalist hopes, but he escaped with a bogey to tie Seals and finish one stroke ahead of Central Oklahoma's Donnie Martin. Seals posted seven birdies in the final round and bogeyed three to post a final-round score of 67. Ryan King saved par from the sand on 18 to finish with a 68, assuring the Duncanville, Texas, junior fourth place in the individual standings. Canadian, Texas, sophomore Travis Lovins finished among the top 10 individuals, as well, using a final-round 72 to finish with a 217 total. Southwestern's Brian Hostetler, who entered the final round as the individual leader with a score of 1-under through two rounds, shot a 75 on Tuesday to slip to seventh overall. In the junior varsity division, Central Oklahoma actually posted lower scores than the competing varsity teams. Led by Donnie Keim's three-round total of 204 (-9), the Bronchos posted a tournament team score of 843, three strokes better than Cameron's varsity division winning score. Keim was the only player in the field to post three rounds in the 60s, carding rounds of 68 and 67 on Monday and finishing with a final-round score of 69. All five Cameron golfers finished among the individual top 10 in the junior varsity division, led by Dusty Isabell's even-par score of 213. Isabell followed a second-round 68 with an even-par 71 on Tuesday to finish third individually. UCO's Justin Barrick (-3) was second. Coach Jerry Hrnciar's squad is scheduled to continue action next week as participants in the Northeastern State Classic on Sept. 29-30, at the Muskogee Country Club.
