Aggie players earn weekly conference awards

RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 29) -- Tournament-high performances in the Lone Star Conference Crossover last weekend resulted in weekly honors for a pair of Cameron volleyball players. Senior Kelsey Kosick has been named this week's LSC North Division Hitter of the Week, while teammate Jenny Head earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, according to a release Monday by conference officials. Both players were honored for their efforts as Cameron went 2-1 and nearly upset 24th-ranked West Texas A&M in the annual crossover event, which was played on the campus of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Kosick earned her second Hitter of the Week award this season by leading all conference players in total kills during the crossover. The 5-10 outside hitter from Fort St. John, British Columbia, collected 71 kills in 14 games for an average of 5.07 kills per game. She also added 5.14 digs per game, 10 service aces and five blocks. She posted 23 kills, 34 digs and eight service aces in Cameron's 3-2 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Friday, then followed with 28 kills and 25 digs in a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to West Texas A&M on Saturday. The Preseason Player of the Year in the LSC North this season, Kosick currently leads the Lone Star Conference with 5.18 kills per game and ranks second in the league with 0.79 service aces per game. Kosick also ranks 10th in the conference in digs per game with 3.59.
Head recorded a tournament-high 105 digs during the crossover tournament to claim Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this season. The 5-6 junior libero from Grande Prairie, Alberta, recorded 30-plus digs in each of Cameron's three matches over the weekend. She had 36 digs apiece in Aggie wins over Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville and had 33 digs in the loss to West Texas A&M. Her effort vaulted Head from fourth to second in the conference individiual statistical rankings with an average of 4.61 digs per game this season.
Other Aggie players appearing in this week's conference statistical rankings include freshman setter Vicki Ibarra, who currently leads the LSC North and ranks third overall in the conference with 11.42 assists per game. Junior middle blocker Nicole Reinhart ranks ninth in the league with a .258 overall hitting percentage.
Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies are scheduled to host Abilene Christian University on Tuesday at Cameron's Aggie Gym. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Aggies (10-8) will open LSC North Division play on Thursday, when they travel to Edmond to face division rival Central Oklahoma.
