Aycock leads Aggies to victory
GUYMON, Okla. (Oct. 7) -- Brad Aycock followed a sensational opening round with an even-par 71 on Tuesday, winning individual medalist honors while leading the Cameron junior varsity golfers to the team title at the Panhandle State Invitational.
Aycock won by four strokes over Panhandle State's Mark Campbell and Amory Droogsma of the College of the Southwest, finishing with a two-round total of 138 (-4). Cameron's Dusty Isabell was fourth with a score of 144. Cameron won the team title by 10 strokes over Hutchinson (Kan.) Junior College.
"We played extremely well today," Cameron head coach Jerry Hrnciar said. "Conditions got a little windy late in the day and we were 8-over as a team on the final three holes, otherwise we would have had a remarkable round."
Aycock, a Durant native who ended Monday's opening round with birdies on seven of the last nine holes, played steady throughout the second round on Tuesday to secure the individual title. Isabell followed Monday's even-par 71 with a 73 on Tuesday. Nic Ware and J.J. Russell each carded rounds of 72 on Tuesday.
"Brad played very good golf this week," Hrnciar said. "He had six penalty strokes in the tournament and still shot a 4-under, so he recovered very well."
Other Cameron scores on Tuesday were a 75 by Dan Kucab, who shot an 81 on Monday while playing as an individual medalist. Scott Watson posted an 81.
Cameron's varsity golf team will be in action again next week. The Aggies will travel to Springfield, Mo., to take part in the Drury Invitational beginning Monday at Hickory Country Club.
