Volleyball denies Southeastern

LAWTON (Oct. 11) -- Cameron hit better than .320 in each game and held Southeastern Oklahoma to a team hitting percentage of .069 for the match, turning away the Lady Savages in straight sets in Lone Star Conference North Division play on Saturday at Aggie Gym.
The win kept Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies a perfect 3-0 in divisional play while improving to 13-9 overall. Southeastern, which extended its losing streak to 23 on Saturday, fell to 1-23 and 0-4.
Kelsey Kosick and Morgan Meyer led the Aggies with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Kosick posted a jaw-dropping .600 hitting percentage with 15 kills and no errors in 25 attempts. Meyer hit .385, with 14 kills and four errors in 26 tries, and Taran Turner hit .571. Setter Vicki Ibarra dished out 36 assists, while Jennifer Landy came in off the bench to post four kills in as many tries to go along with three blocks.
The Aggie defense limited Southeastern to just 28 kills in the match and produced six blocks. Becky Wilson led the Lady Savages with nine kills.
Cameron started strong in the opening set, holding SOSU to a .000 hitting percentage with just six kills. Meyer served the final eight points of the frame as the Aggies took a 1-0 lead with a 30-14 win.
Southeastern tried to make a game of it in the second set, leading 9-8 early. But Meyer posted seven kills in the frame to push Cameron to the lead for good. Lawton freshman Ashley Rikard entered the match in Game 2, becoming the first local player to participate in a Cameron match since Vinson became head coach. Rikard missed on her first two attempts, but notched her first kill as an Aggie to get Cameron to game point in the second set, which the Aggies won by a 30-21 count.
With the match firmly in control, Cameron wasted little time dispatching the Lady Savages in Game 3. Three straight service aces by Meyer were interrupted only by a block by Ibarra and Nicole Reinhart, putting Cameron up 9-3 early. The Aggies continued to extend their lead and Rikard finished off the match with a kill on the left side, making it 30-18.
Cameron will look to close out the first half of its conference schedule with a pair of wins on the road next week. The Aggies will travel to Denton, Texas, to face Texas Woman's University on Thursday. On Saturday, the Aggies will face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.
