Golfers finish fourth at Drury Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Oct. 14) -- Collin Garrett and Dusty Isabell tied for eighth place individually, leading the Cameron men's golf team to a fourth-place showing in the Best Western Deerfiled Inn/Drury Classic on Tuesday. The Aggies posted a final round team score of 315 to finish 22 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Central Oklahoma.
UCO fired identical rounds of 298 to win the team title with a total score of 596. St. Mary's, ranked 12th in the latest NCAA Division II golf rankings, finished five strokes back in second. Fourteenth ranked Arkansas Tech was next at 613, while Cameron finished five strokes behind the Wonder Boys at 618. Central Arkansas, which entered the event ranked No. 8 in the nation, finished seven strokes behind Cameron in eighth place.
Garrett and Isabell were the only two Cameron golfers to post two rounds in the 70s during the tournament, which featured two rounds played on two separate courses. Garrett, a junior from Walters, shot a 73 on Monday at Springfield's Hickory Hills Country Club, then followed with a 78 on Tuesday at Highland Springs Country Club. Isabell, a freshman from Athens, Texas, posted rounds of 76 and 75 to tie Garrett and two others with a total score of 151, just two strokes out of third place. St. Mary's standout Luke Antonelli won medalist honors, shooting a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 141 (-3).
Ryan King, who entered Tuesday's round tied for second after an even-par 72 in the opening round, slipped to 27th with an 84 at Highland Springs. Brad Aycock carded an 82 on Tuesday, while Kolby Seals shot an 80.
Tuesday's effort marked the fifth Top 5 finish in as many tries for the Aggie golfers this fall. Cameron has two team titles to their credit, including a victory by the Aggie JV squad at last week's Panhandle State Invitational. Cameron's also won the varsity division title at this year's Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the Lawton Country Club.
Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Aggies will look to make it six Top 5 finishes in a row next week. Cameron will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the St. Mary's Invitational at the Golf Club of Texas on Monday and Tuesday.
