Aggie golfers remain in Top 25

NORMAN, Okla. -- Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Cameron men's golf team is among the best in NCAA Division II, according to the latest Precept Coaches Poll released Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Aggies are ranked No. 21 in the poll, which is voted upon by a panel of GCAA-member Division II coaches and administrators.
Cameron is currently rated 13th in the NCAA Division II Golfstat head-to-head standings, which are used to determine NCAA postseason participation. The Aggies recently completed the fall portion of the 2003-04 schedule with a second-place showing at a tournament in San Antonio hosted by St. Mary's University. In six events this fall, including one junior varsity tournament, the Aggies have yet to finish below fifth. Cameron won a pair of team titles this fall, as well, taking top honors as CU's own Oklahoma Intercollegiate, and winning the Panhandle State Invitational with its junior varsity squad on Oct. 7.
Hrnciar and the Aggies, who have won two of the last five Lone Star Conference championships and appeared in the NCAA Division II national tournament two of the past three years, will return to competitive action in the spring.
Cal State-Bakersfield earned five first-place votes to become the new top-ranked team, vaulting from third to best previous No. 1 West Florida. Chico State is third in the poll. Cal State-Stanislaus and Francis Marion round out the top five.
