Aggies pound Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Oct. 24) -- After stumbling in a loss to Central Oklahoma earlier this week, the Cameron women's volleyball rebounded in fine fashion on Friday. The Aggies needed just over an hour to defeat Tarleton State in straight sets while producing a season-high team hitting percentage of .416, at TSU's Wisdom Gym.
Coach Kim Vinson's squad won by scores of 30-17, 30-16, 30-14, to improve to 15-11 on the season. The Aggies will continue non-conference play on Tuesday, when they visit Dallas Baptist. Tarleton State fell to 8-20.
Cameron dominated Friday's contest from start to finish. The Aggies posted a .478 hitting percentage in the opening set and had just one attack error in the frame, finishing the match with only seven total hitting errors. Tarleton State, meanwhile, committed six miscues in the first game alone and had a team hitting percentage of .100 for the match.
Kelsey Kosick paved the way for the Aggie offense with a match-high 15 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Morgan Meyer added eight kills, while Nicole Reinhart chipped in six kills and just one error. Freshman Tayler Turner had five kills with no errors and setter Vicki Ibarra dished out 34 assists.
Cameron also scored points on defense and on their serve, out-blocking the TexAnns 6-1 and recording a season-high 16 service aces on the night, including nine by Kosick, which equaled the team mark for individual aces in a match established by Laura Ingle in 1996.
Lacey Adkisson, the preseason offensive player of the year in the Lone Star Conference South Division this season, led Tarleton State with seven kills.
Friday's victory marked just the second time since the 30-point, rally-scoring format was instituted by the NCAA prior to last season that Cameron has held an opponent below 20 points in each set of a match. The Aggies defeated Dallas Baptist 30-19, 30-7, 30-13, on Oct. 10, 2002.
