Volleyball tops SOSU in four
DURANT, Okla. (Oct. 31) -- Freshman setter Vicki Ibarra dished out 59 assists and the Cameron defense produced 13 total blocks, fueling a 3-1 volleyball victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday. The Aggies won by scores of 30-21, 26-30, 30-19, 30-22, as senior outside hitter Kelsey Kosick moved past the 1,500 mark in career kills. Friday's win all but guaranteed a ninth consecutive winning season for Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies, who improved to 17-11 overall and 5-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division play. Cameron is expected to continue conference play on Saturday at Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions, who have dropped three straight and eight of their last 11, fell to 14-14 with a 3-1 loss to Central Oklahoma on Thursday. The Aggies started strong against Southeastern on Friday, limiting the Savages to a .061 hitting percentage in the opening set. But consistency problems plauged Cameron midway through the match and the Aggies were forced to rally after dropping the second set. It was just the second set the Aggies had lost to Southeastern since 1998. But the Aggie defense came on strong again late and Southeastern hit -.029 in the final set to remain winless in conference play at 0-8. The Savages fell to 3-30 overall. Kosick led all players with 21 kills. The Fort St. John, British Columbia, senior also added six service aces and three blocks, including two solo stops. Freshman Taran Turner notched 14 kills and a match-high seven blocks (two solo), while Morgan Meyer added 14 kills, as well. All six Cameron starters recorded at least two blocks in the match. Becky Wilson led Southeastern with 15 kills, while Olivia Franceskini added 12 kills and the team's only three service aces. Following Saturday's match with Texas A&M-Commerce, the Aggies will return home Nov. 7-8, to conclude the regular season schedule. Cameron will host Midwestern State on Friday, before taking on LSC North leader Texas Woman's in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
