Aggies top Texas A&M-Commerce

     COMMERCE, Texas (Nov. 1) -- Cameron overcame a sluggish offensive effort on Saturday to keep alive its hopes for a fourth Lone Star Conference North Division championship. The Aggies hit just .172 for the game, but limited Texas A&M-Commerce to an .084 mark to take a 3-0 win in divisional play.
     Cameron won by scores of 30-26, 30-26, 30-23 to improve to 18-11 overall and 6-2 against LSC North foes. Texas A&M-Commerce, which was the preseason pick to finish second in the division, fell to 14-15 and 2-7.
     Cameron's victory also kept the Aggies in a tie for second place in the LSC North standings. The top three teams from the LSC's North and South divisions will converge for the Lone Star Conference postseason championships, which are scheduled to begin Nov. 13, at the home site of the South Division regular season champion.
     Kelsey Kosick, who earlier in the week became Cameron's all-time single season kills leader, led the Aggies once again with 14 kills. Morgan Meyer added 11 kills and three blocks, while middle blocker Nicole Reinhart chipped in nine kills, three blocks and a match-high .353 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Vicki Ibarra pushed up 38 assists for the Aggies.
     LaTasha Jacobs led Texas A&M-Commerce with nine kills. All-conference middle blocker Amy Wallace added eight kills, six digs and five blocks for the Lions, but it wasn't enough to mount much of a threat against the Aggies.
     The Aggies' .172 hitting mark was the lowest for the team in four matches, but was overshadowed by a solid defensive effort. After the first set, Texas A&M-Commerce hit just .058 the rest of the way. Cameron also totaled six team blocks in the match.
     Cameron, which has won four straight and eight of its last 10, will close out the regular season with a pair of home games next weekend. The Aggies will host Midwestern State on Friday, before taking on LSC North frontrunner Texas Woman's in a season finale showdown on Saturday afternoon. The match will be the final home contest for Kosick, who is the lone senior on this year's Aggie squad.
