Aggie Basketball to host Coaches vs. Cancer benefit

LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 20) - Fans of the Cameron University men's basketball team will have an opportunity to see the Aggies in action for the first time at home on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as they take on Southwestern Christian University. At the same time, they'll be helping a worthy charitable cause.
Tuesday's contest has been designated Coaches vs. Cancer Night at Cameron's Aggie Gym, with all gate receipts going to benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets will be $6 at the door for adults and children, with advance tickets available for $5 by contacting the Cameron University Athletic Department at (580) 581-2460. The game is not included in Cameron's season ticket package and no game passes will be honored for the event, in order to maximize support for the American Cancer Society.
"We are very proud to be associated with such a worthwhile cause," said Cameron head men's basketball coach Garrette Mantle. "We've been a part of this for several years now and it's great for our young men and our basketball program to be able to participate in a program that benefits a vital organization like the American Cancer Society."
Tipoff for the contest is set for 7 p.m., at Cameron's Aggie Gym. The game will be the fourth contest in five days for the Aggies, who were scheduled to open the 2003-04 campaign this weekend with three games on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
The Coaches vs. Cancer program was created in 1993 by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The program exists to leverage the strength, community leadership and celebrity of the country’s basketball coaches to fight cancer. The program raises awareness to the cancer problem and in turn, reduces cancer risk through education programs while raising funds for American Cancer Society research, advocacy, education and patient services programs. Since its inception, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has raised more than $16 million to benefit the American Cancer Society, the nation’s leading voluntary health organization.
