Lady Aggies open with pair of wins

     AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 22) - Kimberle Woods averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game this weekend, leading the Cameron women's basketball team to a pair of victories to open the season.
     Coach Dick Halterman's Lady Aggies shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the game while defeating Texas A&M-International 86-66 on Friday, then cruised to a 30-18 halftime lead before turning away St. Edward's University by a 76-70 count on Saturday.
     Cameron nearly posted 50 points in the first half of Friday's contest with Texas A&M-International, leading 47-32 at the break. Woods led the Aggies with 17 points in the game, going 6-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Sophomore forward Christina Buben added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Aggies. Melisa Steen and Brittany Cooksey added nine points each.
     Against St. Edward's on Saturday, Cameron again jumped out a sizable lead in the opening frame. The Lady Aggies held the Hilltoppers to just seven field goals in the first half and finished the game an eye-popping 30-of-33 from the charity stripe as a team. Cameron led by 12 at halftime and held on for the win to remain undefeated at 2-0.
     Woods again posted 17 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Lady Aggies. Sophomore Lakrisha Murdoch came off the bench to notch 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Lady Aggies also out-rebounded St. Edward's 34-28 and forced 21 turnovers in the game.
     St. Edward's received double-digit scoring from three players, including a game-high 26 from guard Jennifer Knight.
     Next action for the Lady Aggies is scheduled for later this week in the annual PowerAde Classic at Cameron's Aggie Gym. Cameron will square off with the NAIA's top-ranked Oklahoma City Stars on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be preceded by a Central Oklahoma-Drury University matchup at 5.
     On Saturday, UCO and Oklahoma City will square off at 4 p.m., with the Lady Aggies taking on the ninth-ranked Drury squad at 6. That game will be followed by a Cameron men's contest against Sterling (Kan.) College, which received votes in the NAIA Division II preseason basketball poll.
