Aggie sharpshooters top Southwestern Christian
LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 25) - Led by a 16-of-17 shooting performance from senior Chad Crawford, the Cameron men's basketball team put on an impressive shooting display Tuesday night at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
Coach Garrette Mantle's squad produced a 64.2 shooting percentage, including a sizzling 19-of-27 in the second half, to hand Southwestern Christian University a 77-69 loss. Crawford scored a game-high 33 points as the Aggies improved to 3-1 on the season.
Cameron returns to action at home Saturday, Nov. 29, hosting Sterling (Kan.) College as part of the annual Thanksgiving PowerAde Classic. For a complete schedule of events for the PowerAde Classic, click here.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the game on Tuesday, with Southwestern Christian finishing 25-of-48 from the field. The Eagles also connected on nearly half (9-of-20) of their three-point attempts in the game.
In addition to Crawford's outburst, which upped his team-leading scoring average to 19.0 for the season, two other Cameron players scored in double-digits. Junior forward Marcus Girtmon collected 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while also picking up a game-high six steals. Jeremy Amos added 12 points, as well.
Jeff Wochner, a senior from Bethany, led the Eagles with 25 points while hitting 5-of-11 from three-point range. Roman Owen added 13 points for Southwestern Christian.
Cameron trailed by two (36-34) at halftime, but used an 8-0 run capped by a turnaround jumper by Amos at the 11:50 mark of the second half to grab a 52-44 lead. SWC answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Owen and Jacob O'Byrne and took a 57-56 lead with under nine minutes to play.
But the Aggies took the lead with a 15-2 run over a five-minute span late in the game and never looked back.
