Aggies lose on TAMU-C buzzer-beater

GAME BOXSCORE >>

LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 6) - Jeremy Amos' jumper with 17 seconds left knotted the score for Cameron, but Texas A&M-Commerce answered with a buzzer-beating jumper in the lane by junior Matt Rager, pulling out a 72-70 victory over the Aggies in Lone Star Conference crossover action Saturday.

The loss overshadowed a gritty comeback effort for the Aggies. Cameron trailed by as many as 21 in the second half, but went on a 6-0 run in the final three minutes to knot the score. That run was preceded by a 23-6 Aggie spurt that had Cameron trailing just 55-59 with 9:25 to play.

Amos posted 20 points, connecting on 6-of-12 three-point attempts in the game. Teammate Chad Crawford, a senior from Indianapolis, led all players in the game with 23 points and a season-high 16 rebounds.

Texas A&M-Commerce had four players in double-figures, led by Clay Lewkowski's 20 points. Jason Summers added 13, while Thaddeus Daggett and Kevin Carter chipped in 11 each. Rager, the Lions' hero in the game, finished with just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting.

Both teams converted 24 field goals in the contest, but Texas A&M-Commerce held a 19-12 scoring edge at the free throw line. Cameron out-rebounded the Lions 42-26, but committed 14 turnovers to Texas A&M-Commerce's nine.

Next up for Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies (4-2) is a Dec. 11, meeting with Lone Star Conference South Division rival Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tipoff at Cameron's Aggie Gym is set for 8 p.m., and will be preceded by a women's contest beginning at 6.
