Kosick named to Daktronics All-Region first team

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Cameron senior Kelsey Kosick added to her growing list of postseason honors this week, earning first team honors on the 2003 Daktronics All-Southwest Region volleyball team. Kosick was one of six players in the region named to the team, which is selected by sports information directors from within the region. As a first team selection, Kosick will move on for All-American consideration, as well.

A 5-11 outside hitter from Fort St. John, British Columbia, Kosick established eight new school records this season and earned the Player of the Year award in the Lone Star Conference North Division for the second consecutive season in voting conducted among the division's six head coaches. Kosick also was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southwest Region team and earned AVCA All-American honorable mention. The AVCA all-region teams, which are selected by AVCA member head coaches in the region, select the top 12 players in the region, regardless of position. The Daktronics all-region squad, however, limits first-team selections by position and honors only six players. The Daktronics all-region first team consists of one defensive specialist/libero, two middle hitters, two outside hitters and one setter.

Kosick completed one of the most prolific offensive careers in Cameron history last month, helping lead the Aggies to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference championships. She also helped Cameron to a No. 10 ranking in the competitive NCAA Division II Southwest Region while establishing school records in nearly every offensive statistical category. Kosick is Cameron's all-time leader in career service aces and single-season kills. She also owns school marks for aces and kills in a single match and career digs per game and has established a new Lone Star Conference record for career service aces per game.

This season, Kosick led Cameron and the LSC in service aces per game and kills per game, ranking in the Top 10 nationally in both categories, as well. She also was among the conference leaders in hitting percentage and digs per game.

Cameron finished the 2003 season with a record of 21-12 and tied for first in the Lone Star Conference North Division. Five Aggie players earned all-conference honors, including Kosick, who was named to the All-LSC North first team for the third consecutive season.

Daktronics, with headquarters in Brookings, S.D., is an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The company is in its fourth year of sponsorship for the Division II volleyball All-American and All-Region teams.
