Lady Aggies top Texas A&M-Kingsville

LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 11) - Senior Kimberle Woods scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half and Brittany Cooksey was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, leading Cameron to a 66-57 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville in Lone Star Conference women's basketball crossover action Thursday night at Aggie Gym.

Cameron, which led 32-23 at halftime, fought off a 22-7 run by the Javelinas early in the second half and hit 7-of-10 from the charity stripe in the final minutes to improve to 4-2 on the season. Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to 1-3.

Cooksey led Cameron with 16 points, including 10 in the second half as the Lady Aggies rallied to reclaim a lead built, in part, by a poor shooting performance by the visiting Javelinas. Texas A&M-Kingsville converted just eight field goals in the first half and finished the game with just a 33.3 shooting percentage.

Four players scored in double figures for TAMUK, led by 15 points from Jody Brooks. Kelly Beckler added 12 and Tyesha Floyd and Angela Trotter chipped in 11 each, but no other TAMUK player scored more than three as Cameron's defense clamped down to force 17 turnovers.

By contrast, nine Cameron players scored in the game and 10 Lady Aggie players pulled down rebounds.

Cameron begins a five-game road swing as the host school for next week's inaugural South Central Regional Challenge on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Coach Dick Halterman's squad will face St. Edward's University and 7th-ranked Washburn in the six-team, round-robin event, which is scheduled for Dec. 16-17.
