Aggie men earn split at Las Vegas High Desert Classic
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Dec. 20) - Senior Chad Caudill hit several key three-pointers and the Aggies held off a late surge by Missouri Western State College in the second half, picking up an 88-84 win over the Griffons Saturday in action at the Las Vegas High Desert Classic on the campus of UNLV.
The win followed a lopsided loss to host school Central Missouri State on Friday and improved Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies to 5-4 on the season.
Cameron is scheduled to return to action on Dec. 30, travelling to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin in a game set to tipoff at 7 p.m.
Five players scored in double-figures for the Aggies against Missouri Western, led by 20 points from senior Chad Caudill. The Rockwall, Texas, native was 6-of-7 from three-point range, leading a 12-of-18 effort from behind the arc for the Aggies in the game. Chad Crawford added 19 on 8-of-10 shooting and Marcus Girtmon put in 18, as the Aggies posted a sizzling 60.7 shooting percentage for the game.
Saturday's win overshadowed a lackluster effort in a Friday loss to Central Missouri State. The Aggies trailed by 21 at halftime of a 90-57 loss to the Mules. No Cameron players scored in double-digits in the game and three players tied for the team lead with five rebounds apiece.
CMSU, conversely, posted three double-digit scorers, including a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots from center Pat Schumacher.
