ENMU trips up Aggies, 86-68

GAME BOXSCORE >>

LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 8) - Cameron trailed by just nine points early in the second half before a 13-0 scoring run midway through the half spurred Eastern New Mexico to victory Thursday night. ENMU led by as many as 23 in the final period before settling for an 86-68 win over the Aggies in Lone Star Conference crossover action at Cameron's Aggie Gym.

Cameron (5-8) will look to end a four-game losing streak on Saturday when the Aggies host West Texas A&M in double-header action that begins with a women's contest at 2 p.m.

CU's Jeremy Amos led all players in the game with 21 points. The senior guard connected on 5-of-8 three-pointers and was 7-of-12 overall from the field. Marcus Girtmon added 16 and Chad Crawford chipped in 12 for the Aggies. Five ENMU players scored in double-figures, led by Irshaun Pinckney's 18 points.

Cameron trailed by nine early in the first half as Eastern New Mexico used a dominant front-court game and a slashing offense to outscore the Aggies 24-4 in the paint in the first half. A 9-0 Cameron run, capped by a Chad Caudill jumper at the 9:12 mark of the first half, evened the score at 21-21. But the Greyhounds answered by outscoring CU 19-10 the rest of the half to take a 40-31 halftime lead.

Coach Garrette Mantle's squad cut the lead to nine again twice early in the second half, trailing just 44-35 with 18:02 to play. But ENMU again put together an impressive scoring run, this time a 13-0 spurt over a four-minute period, to take command. After Pinckney's bucket at the 13:19 mark made it 57-35 Greyhounds, the Aggies never got within 16 the rest of the way.

The loss was the fourth straight and seventh in the last eight games for the Aggies, who were outscored 46-20 in the paint for the game and allowed 26 ENMU points off of 20 CU turnovers.
