ENMU rally drops Lady Aggies

GAME BOXSCORE >>

LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 8) -  Kimberle Woods' layup with 6:09 to play put the Cameron women's basketball team up by 13 against Eastern New Mexico Thursday night in Lone Star Conference crossover action at Aggie Gym. It was Cameron's last field goal of the game, however, as the Zias stormed back to take a 65-63 victory.

Coach Dick Halterman's squad fell to 6-6 overall with its second straight loss. The Lady Aggies will look to rebound on Saturday, hosting West Texas A&M in another LSC crossover contest scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m.

Brittany Cooksey and Woods shared scoring honors for the Lady Aggies Thursday night, each contributing 17 points. Three ENMU players scored in double-figures, led by Laci Lee's game-high 22 points.

Cameron led virtually the entire first half and took a 32-25 lead into the locker room at intermission. But the Lady Aggies went four minutes into the second half without a point, allowing ENMU to tie the game with a 7-0 run to start the half.

The Lady Aggies quickly regrouped, however, answering with a 10-2 run of their own to regain control. Cameron appeared to be on track for its third win in four games when Woods connected on a three-pointer to make it 50-38 with just over 10 minutes to play.

The teams traded buckets and free throws over the next several minutes, but Cameron's lead eventually grew to 13 when Cooksey sank a pair of free throws to make it 60-47 with 6:42 to play. The Zias answered with a jumper from Elizabeth Richards, but Cameron went up by 13 again on the Woods layup before the scoring drought began.

Cameron missed its final five shots from the field and missed three critical free throws down the stretch, allowing the Zias to chip away. Eastern New Mexico's first lead of the second half (and just its second lead of the game) didn't come until 31 seconds remaining in the game, when Jereena Bosket picked off a Cameron pass and raced the length of the court for a layup that made it 64-63. Lee tacked on a free throw with eight seconds left to forge the final score.

Cameron had an opportunity with possession of the ball for the final eight seconds, but failed to get a shot off before the buzzer.
