WTAM runs away from Lady Aggies, 91-52

LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 10) - Coach Dick Halterman's Lady Aggies had more turnovers (19) than points (16) in the first half and never gained control Saturday afternoon at Aggie Gym. Cameron (6-7) dropped its third straight game, falling 91-52 to West Texas A&M in Lone Star Conference crossover action.
The Lady Buffs (11-2) led by 30 at halftime and increased their lead to as many as 45 in the second half.
Cameron will look to get back in the win column on Thursday, as both the Lady Aggies and Aggies travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, to take on LSC crossover rival Midwestern State in double-header action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
West Texas A&M used suffocating man-to-man pressure to take command of the game early on Saturday. The Lady Buffs scored the first eight points of the game and led by 10 just five minutes into the game when Carlee Howard's three-pointer made it 14-4. Howard's next three-pointer at the 8:07 mark capped a 13-4 run for WTAM and made it 27-8.
The WTAM defense did its part, as well, limiting Cameron to just three field goals and a .150 shooting percentage in the opening period. Cameron settled in to shoot .406 (13-of-32) in the second half and committed just eight turnovers in the final period, but the damage had already been done.
Sophomore center Melisa Steen led the Lady Aggies with 19 points, while senior Kimberle Woods pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Six West Texas A&M players scored in double-figures, led by Howard's 14.
Already hit with a bench technical foul in the first half, Cameron picked up two more bench technicals in a span of less than a minute in the second period, forcing the Lady Aggies to finish the final 3:26 of the game without a coach on the bench.
