GAME BOXSCORE >>
STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Jan. 22) - Cameron committed 25 turnovers and shot just 35.7 percent from the floor Thursday, losing a 78-44 Lone Star Conference North Division decision to top-ranked Tarleton State.
The victory was the eighth straight for the Texans, who jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 in this week's NABC/Division II Bulletin Top 25 coaches poll. Cameron, meanwhile, fell to 5-12 overall and 0-2 in LSC North play with its eighth consecutive loss.
Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies will look to snap the midseason losing streak on Jan. 29, when both Cameron teams travel to Ada to take on East Central.
Marcus Girtmon was the only Aggie to score in double figures on Thursday, finishing with 15 on 7-of-17 shooting. Three TSU players reached double-digits, led by 20 points from Chris Williams. Williams also led all players in the game with eight rebounds.
Cameron's first points of the game didn't come until the 14:51 mark of the first half, when Melvin Mitchell connected on a three-pointer. By that time, Tarleton State had already put up 14 points and quickly extended its lead to 23-3 with 11:25 left in the half.
The Aggies traded points with TSU the remainder of the half, but still managed just five field goals in the period and trailed 41-18 at intermission.
Cameron never got Tarleton's lead under 20 points in the second half and never trailed by less than 30 over the final 14:35. Aggie miscues gave TSU a 26-7 advantage in points off turnovers. The Texans also owned a 34-14 scoring gap in points scored in the paint.
