Aggie skid reaches 10 with loss to Southeastern

LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 31) - Southeastern Oklahoma used a 16-0 run midway through the game to extend Cameron's losing streak to 10 games Saturday in Lone Star Conference North Division men's basketball action at Aggie Gym. The Savages posted a 76-63 win, dropping the Aggies to 5-14 overall and 0-4 in league play.
The skid matches the longest losing streak since joining the NCAA for the Aggies, who also lost 10 straight in January of 2003.
Cameron will look to get back in the win column for the first time since Dec. 20, on Thursday. The Aggies host LSC North rival Central Oklahoma in a bout scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m., at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
Assistant coach David Prince, stepping in for absent head coach Garrette Mantle, guided the Aggies to a seven-point lead in the opening period. Jeremy Amos' three-pointer with 2:32 left in the period capped a 7-2 Aggie run and put Cameron up 33-26.
But Southeastern answered with a 7-2 run of their own to close the half and stormed out of the gate with a 12-0 surge to begin the second period. Cedric Walker's layup with 15:48 to play gave Southeastern the game's first double-digit lead at 49-39. The Aggies got within seven on three occasions following Walker's bucket, but Clint Baker's bucket put the Savages' comfortably ahead for good, leading 68-58 with 5:09 to play.
Marcus Girtmon led the Aggies with 24 points, including 11 in the first nine minutes of the game. Girtmon also paced Cameron with 10 rebounds, giving the 6-5 junior forward from Dallas his first double-double of the season. Amos added 12, with all of the points coming on three-pointers.
Southeastern outscored Cameron in virtually every phase of the game, leading 38-26 on points in the paint, 24-7 in points off turnovers, 16-11 on second-chance points and 10-4 on fastbreak scoring. Coach Tony Robinson's squad also outscored the Aggies 19-8 at the free throw line. Jeremy Brown led the Savages with 32 points, including a 10-of-15 effort from the field and a 12-of-14 showing at the charity stripe. Eric Babers added 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Cedric Walker chipped in 16 points.
