Kosick named to Daktronics All-American second team

BROOKINGS, S.D. (Feb. 5) -  Following a stellar senior season that saw her establish a slew of school records, Cameron women's volleyball player Kelsey Kosick has been rewarded yet again. Kosick is one of 18 players named to the 2003 Daktronics Division II All-America Volleyball Team, which was released Thursday following a vote of the division's sports information directors.

A 5-11 outside hitter from Fort St. John, British Columbia, Kosick was one of only two players in the entire Southwest Region and one of only six outside hitters nation-wide selected to the All-America team. She is the first Cameron player to be named to the Daktronics All-America volleyball team, which was created in 2000.

"Once again we are very proud of the recognition Kelsey has received and the attention she has brought to our program," Cameron head coach Kim Vinson said. "It's just another indication that she will be sorely missed next season."

Kosick established eight new school records in her senior season and finished her career with 12 Cameron marks. She earned the Player of the Year award in the Lone Star Conference North Division for the second consecutive season and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southwest Region team. Kosick also earned AVCA All-American honorable mention in 2003. The AVCA all-region teams, which are selected by AVCA member head coaches in the region, select the top 12 players in the region, regardless of position. The Daktronics all-region and All-America squads, however, limit selections by position and honor only six players per team. The Daktronics All-America teams consist of one defensive specialist/libero, two middle hitters, two outside hitters and one setter.

Kosick completed one of the most prolific offensive careers in Cameron history earlier this school year, helping lead the Aggies to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference championships. She also helped Cameron to a No. 10 ranking in the competitive NCAA Division II Southwest Region while establishing school records in nearly every offensive statistical category. Kosick is Cameron's all-time leader in career service aces and single-season kills. She also owns school marks for aces and kills in a single match and career digs per game and has established a new Lone Star Conference record for career service aces per game.

This season, Kosick led Cameron and the LSC in service aces per game and kills per game, ranking in the Top 10 nationally in both categories, as well. She also was among the conference leaders in hitting percentage and digs per game.

Cameron finished the 2003 season with a record of 21-12 and finished as tri-champions in the competitive Lone Star Conference North Division. Five Aggie players earned all-conference honors, including Kosick, who was named to the All-LSC North first team for the third consecutive season.

Daktronics, with headquarters in Brookings, S.D., is an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The company is in its fourth year of sponsorship for the Division II volleyball All-America and All-Region teams.
