Southwestern keeps Aggies winless in LSC

GAME BOXSCORE >>

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Feb. 10) -  Marcus Girtmon scored 24 points and Billy Joe Kamphaus added a season-high 12, but it wasn't enought to top Southwestern Oklahoma here Tuesday night. The 71-59 loss was the 13th consecutive defeat for the Aggies, who fell to 5-17 overall and 0-7 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.

The Aggies return home on Thursday to host No. 1-ranked Tarleton State. Tipoff at Cameron's Aggie Gym is set for 8 p.m.

Girtmon and Kamphaus were the only double-digit scorers for the Aggies on Tuesday, despite a team field goal percentage of .500 for the game. Southwestern countered with a game-high 26 points from Jamaal Shell and 12 from Cer Edwards, as the Bulldogs posted a .518 shooting percentage.

Cameron scored the first five points of the game, using a three-pointer by Girtmon to gain the upper hand. But the advantage was short-lived, however, as Southwestern grabbed the lead on a steal and layup by Darron Lewis at the 12-minute mark of the first half to make it 14-12 Bulldogs.

Southwestern quickly upped the lead to eight points, and although Cameron cut the gap to a single point on two occassions just before halftime, the Bulldogs never trailed after Lewis' bucket.

Cameron stayed within striking distance early in the second half. Chad Caudill's free throws at the 13:27 mark made it 41-36 and a bucket by Kamphaus kept the Aggies within nine at 50-41 with just over 10 minutes to play. But Southwestern answered with a 12-4 run over the next three and a half minutes to seize control.

Southwestern owned a commanding 34-14 scoring advantage in the paint Tuesday night. Both teams combined to make only 10 free throws, including a 6-of-7 effort by the Aggies.
