Aggies end losing skid with win over Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 21) - Chad Crawford scored a game-high 16 points and four other Aggies reached double figures as the Cameron men's basketball team ended a 15-game losing skid with a win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Coach Garrette Mantle's Aggies posted a 74-71 victory, improving to 6-19 overall while notching their first Lone Star Conference North Division win of the season. Cameron will look to make it two in a row on Feb. 26, against Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Saturday's first half featured three ties and eight lead changes, as neither team was able to build a significant advantage. Cameron's largest lead of the period came with just under seven minutes left in the half when Kevin McConnell's fast-break layup put the Aggies up by six at 28-22. Southeastern answered with a 10-0 run, but Cameron came right back, scoring seven unanswered points. The Aggies led 37-35 at intermission.
The Aggies got the lead back up to six early in the second half on a jumper by Crawford, but Southeastern breifly recaptured the lead with a quick 7-0 spurt. Jason Stampley's three-pointer at the 11:26 mark upped the Savages' lead to five points at 53-48, but once again, Cameron answered with a 10-0 run to regain command.
Cameron enjoyed its largest lead of the game with 5:21 to play, as Marcus Girtmon broke free for a fast-break dunk. But the Aggies had to hold off Southeastern down the stretch. The Savages got with one with 25 seconds to play before Girtmon converted a pair of free throws to forge the final score with 11 ticks remaining. Southeastern got off a three-point attempt just before the buzzer, but Cedric Walker's try from behind the arc was off the mark and Jeremy Amos secured the rebound for the Aggies to wrap up the win.
Crawford led a group of four Aggies in double figures. Girtmon posted 13 points, while Melvin Mitchell and Amos had 12 and 10, respectively. Crawford shared game-high scoring honors with Southeastern's Clint Baker, who posted 14 second-half points to finish with 16.
Cameron shot 52.7 percent from the field in the game and out-rebounded the Savages 30-29. The Aggies also finished with a 38-26 scoring advantage in the paint.
