Lady Aggies fall to Northeastern, Tarleton State

LAWTON, Okla. (Feb. 21) - After coming up just short in an upset bid against Northeastern State, a deflated Cameron women's tennis team lost to Tarleton State, as well, on Saturday at the CU Tennis Complex.

Cameron saw a 4-0 lead against 13th-ranked Northeastern evaporate into a 5-4 loss, then lost 6-3 to the unranked TexAnns. Coach James Helvey's Lady Aggies will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, when both Cameron teams host conference rival East Central.

Things started off well for the Lady Aggies against 13th-ranked Northeastern State. Cameron swept all three doubles matches, including Madeley Ameerali and Taylor Ivie's upset win over Northeastern's fifth-ranked doubles team of Holly McKee and Berit Itschert in the No. 1 slot.

Cameron also got a quick straight-set victory by Paulina Trujillo in the No. 2 singles match to take a 4-0 lead. But needing to win just one of the remaining five singles matches to secure the victory, the Lady Aggies watched as Northeastern State methodically marched back to win all five to steal the team victory.

Dejected and deflated from the marathon match with the Lady Reds, Cameron put up little fight in its afternoon meeting with Tarleton State. TSU took a 2-1 lead after doubles action and wrapped up the win with two matches still in progress. Ivie and Ameerali eached picked up singles victories, but it wasn't enough to stop Tarleton State from recording the upset win.
