Aggies fall to Central Oklahoma
GAME BOXSCORE >>
EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 26) - Jeremy Amos hit 9-of-16 from three-point range and scored a game-high 28 points, but it wasn't enough for the Cameron men's basketball team Thursday night against Central Oklahoma.
UCO never trailed in the contest, winning 92-74 to clinch a berth in next week's Lone Star Conference postseason tournament while dropping the Aggies to 6-20 overall and 1-10 in league play.
Cameron will close out the season at home on Saturday, hosting defending NCAA II national champion Northeastern State. Tipoff at Aggie Gym is set to follow a women's contest, which will begin at 2 p.m.
Central Oklahoma's lead in the opening period only briefly reached double-digits, as the Aggies matched the Bronchos nearly bucket for bucket. Amos got the Aggies within two at 17-15 with his third three-pointer of the game at the 13:11 mark. The senior guard hit 6-of-9 from three-point range in the opening half, including one at the 1:27 mark that capped a 6-0 Cameron run and brought the Aggies to within seven at 43-36.
But Central Oklahoma opened the second half with an 11-1 spurt to take control. After Nick Graham opened the period with a three-pointer to put UCO up 47-36, the Bronchos' lead never dipped below 10 points.
Amos finished the game with a school-record nine three-pointers, eclipsing his own previous mark of seven set against UCO as a sophomore in 2002. His 16 attempts from behind the arc tied a school mark, as well.
Marcus Girtmon added 12 points and Melvin Mitchell chipped in 10, but team scoring leader Chad Crawford was held to just seven points, less than half of his 14.4 season scoring average. Five UCO players reached double-digits, including 13 each from Deshone Henderson and Terry McVay. UCO outrebounded the Aggies 55-32.
