Woods named LSC North Player of the Year

Williams selected Co-Freshman of the Year; Cooksey named to second team

RICHARDSON, Texas (March 8) - Cameron senior Kimberle Woods has been selected as the Lone Star Conference North Division women's basketball Player of the Year, according to a release by conference officials. A 5-9 forward from Dallas, Texas, Woods was chosen for the honor following voting by the division's six head coaches.

Joining Woods on the LSC North all-conference first team were senior center Stormy Griffith of East Central, sophomore forward Julie Dawson of Southwestern Oklahoma, and senior guard Kelli Griffith and senior forward Leslie Warner of Northeastern State. Griffith was selected as the division's Defensive Player of the Year and Dawson was named the LSC North Newcomer of the Year. Cameron guard Tiffany Williams shared Freshman of the Year honors with Tarleton State's Katie Crawford.

Woods recently completed her career as Cameron's all-time rebounding leader. In 110 career games with the Lady Aggies, Woods collected 694 rebounds, eclipsing Mattie Crawford's 20-year school record of 680 from 1980-82. She also scored over 1,300 career points at Cameron, averaging 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in four seasons. Woods is a two-time all-conference first team selection and earned second-team honors as a freshman in 2001. This season she led the Lady Aggies in both scoring and rebounding average, ranking among the conference leaders in the same categories, as well. She also led the team in both steals and assists.

Williams transferred comfortably to the collegiate game in her first season with the Lady Aggies. The former all-state selection at Lawton's Eisenhower High School averaged 6.3 points while appearing in all 28 Cameron games as a freshman this season. Williams also was one of five Lady Aggie players to grab at least 100 rebounds this year, averaging 3.9 boards per game. She led the team in scoring twice this season, including a season-high 16-point effort in a loss to LSC North regular season champion Northeastern State on Feb. 7.

Sophomore guard Brittany Cooksey earned second-team all-conference honors for the Lady Aggies. Cooksey, a 5-10 native of Bristow, Okla., and a former LSC North Freshman of the Year honoree, was second on the team and 20th in the conference in scoring this season with a 12.0 average. Cooksey also was second on the team in steals, assists and blocked shots, while ranking third on the team in rebounding.

Cameron finished the season with a record of 15-13 under second-year head coach Dick Halterman. The Lady Aggies qualified for Lone Star Conference postseason competition for the third time in the last four years in 2004, losing to eventual conference champion Angelo State in the LSC tournament quarterfinals.
