Lady Aggie bats cold in conference opener

UPDATED STATISTICS >>

LAWTON, Okla. (March 9) - Southeastern Oklahoma pitchers held Cameron to just three hits on Tuesday, sweeping both games of a double-header that served as the Lone Star Conference North Division openers for each team.

Southeastern won by scores of 3-0 and 4-0, dropping Coach Gladys Crawford's Lady Aggies to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Lady Savages, meanwhile, improved to 11-9 and 2-0.

The teams will resume their season series on Wednesday with another double-header in Durant.

Cameron managed just two hits off SOSU starter Christina Cearley in Game 1. Michelle Wanner singled in the fourth and Kelsey Wheeler singled in the sixth, but both were left stranded as the Lady Aggies failed to cash in on limited opportunities. Cameron's only other baserunner in the game came in the third inning, when Amy Pallmeyer reached first on a third-strike passed ball.

Southeastern scored once in the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth, when Elicia Marquez and Kylie Ferguson doubled before Kristin McNeece scored Ferguson with an RBI ground-out.

Cearley earned the complete-game victory, racking up 11 strikeouts with no walks in seven innings. Jessica Hutton went the distance for Cameron, as well, allowing three earned runs on six hits.

The Lady Savages got another strong pitching performance from Carly Goodnight in the nightcap. The freshman right-hander tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out six with two walks.

Cameron's only hit of the contest came in the third on Megan Schneberger's one-out single. Pallmeyer's sacrifice bunt moved Schneberger over to second, but that's as far as a Cameron baserunner made it in the game. The Lady Aggies pushed two runners to second in the fourth on an SOSU error and a walk by Goodnight.

But Goodnight clamped down, retiring 10 of the last 11 batters she faced.

Kelly Holden worked the entire game for the Lady Aggies on the mound, allowing just two earned runs on eight SOSU hits.
