Mahaffey medalist, Aggies second at UNA
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (March 16) - Freshman Owen Mahaffey fired consecutive rounds of 69, earning individual medalist honors while leading the Cameron golf team to a second-place showing at the North Alabama Golf Classic.
Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Aggies will have next week off before returning to action on March 29-30 at the UCO/Kickingbird Classic in Edmond.
Cameron, which entered Tuesday's final round tied for the team lead in the event, posted a team score of 294 in the final round to finish two strokes off the pace of tournament champion and host school North Alabama.
Mahaffey, a Wichita Falls product and the younger brother of former Aggie All-American Shaun Mahaffey, finished the event at 4-under to win the individual title. UNA junior James Porter finished second, carding a final-round 69 to finish two shots behind Mahaffey with a 140 total.
