LAWTON, Okla. (March 16) - Cameron's offensive woes continued and Northeastern State racked up 25 hits, winning both ends of a softball double-header to complete a four-game sweep of the Aggies in Lone Star Conference North Division action on Tuesay.
Northeastern won by identical scores of 5-1, dropping Cameron to 6-17 overall and 1-7 in league play. Coach Gladys Crawford's Aggies will look to regroup and end a five-game losing streak when they return to action on March 23 against Midwestern State.
As the lone healthy Cameron pitcher on the roster Tuesday, Kelly Holden pitched all 14 innings of the double-header for the second consecutive day against Northeastern State. Holden held up admirably, but with plenty of experience seeing the Aurora, Colo., junior's repertoire over the past 48 hours, the Lady Reds produced 11 hits in the first game and 14 in the second.
Cameron, meanwhile, managed just six hits on the afternoon, dropping its team batting average for the season to just .182 and the Lady Aggies' opponents' pitching ERA to a miniscule 0.80.
Northeastern broke open Game 1 with a four-run second inning. The Lady Reds produced five hits in the frame, including a bases-clearing double by Kristy Seachris. NSU tacked on another run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Kia Moore to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Cameron loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, capitalizing on a walk, error and hit-by-pitch. Freshman Kelsey Wheeler produced Cameron's only run of the game with an RBI single up the middle, but NSU starter Lacie O'Dell struck out the next batter to end the game.
The Aggies scored first in Game 2, getting another RBI single by Wheeler to score Amy Pallmeyer in the third inning. But Northeastern answered back quickly, scoring runs in their next three turns at bat. NSU took the lead for good in the fourth, when Seachris followed a Krystal Sanders single with a home run to left-center. The Lady Reds added two more in the fifth on RBI hits by Seachris and Rachel Wahleithner.
Cameron couldn't respond and went down in order in every inning outside of the third, giving NSU starter Jessica Gouskos the victory on a four-strikeout, two-hit effort.
