Aggie golfers claim Kickingbird title
EDMOND, Okla. (March 30) - Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Cameron golf team notched its first team victory of the spring season on Tuesday, topping several nationally ranked teams to claim the overall title at the UCO/Kickingbird Classic.
The Aggies entered the final round one stroke off the pace set by first-day leader Northeastern State, but turned in a team score of 288 in the final round to edge the 20th-ranked Redmen by a single stroke. Cameron also finished ahead of ninth-ranked St. Mary's, which finished third, and 12th-ranked Central Oklahoma (fourth).
Cameron is ranked No. 14 in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America Precept Coaches Poll, which was released on March 4.
All five Cameron golfers placed among the individual Top 20 at the Kickingbird Classic, led by junior Ryan King. The Duncanville, Texas, native shot a two-over 72 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 214 (+4). Durant freshman Brad Aycock finished a stroke back in a tie for eighth place, while Owen Mahaffey and Travis Lovins tied for 12th with a total of 216. Collin Garrett carded the low round of the day for the Aggies, firing a one-over 71 to finish in a tie for 20th overall with a total of 218.
Medalist honors went to St. Mary's sophomore Luke Antonelli, who shot even par on Tuesday to finish three-under at 207.
Cameron will take next week off before resuming action at the Southwestern Oklahoma Intercollegiate at Sugar Creek Canyon Golf Club near Hinton.
