Lady Aggies top Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 8) - Madeley Ameerali's three-set victory in the No. 5 singles match lifted the Cameron women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over Midwestern State on Thursday.

Ameerali lost the first set of her match with MSU's Jennifer Hays, but rallied to win the final two sets to help improve the Lady Aggies to 13-5 on the season.

Cameron won two of three doubles matches to forge an early 2-1 match lead. Midwestern rallied with three singles victories, including Frida Arlegard's third-set win over Cameron's Carolina Vera-Vera in the No. 1 spot. Arlegard won the first set 6-1, but Vera-Vera stormed back to win the second, 6-0. The players battled to a 6-6 tie in the third set before Arlegard prevailed with a 7-4 win in the tie-breaker.

Taylor Ivie won easily in the No. 6 match for the Lady Aggies and Paulina Trujillo gave Cameron its fourth team point with a three-set victory over Michelle Beukes at No. 2.

That set the stage for Ameerali's dramatic comeback. Already down one set, Ameerali fought off Hays to win a tie-breaker in the second set. With momentum on her side, Ameerali closed out the match with a 6-3 win in the third set.

Next scheduled action for the Cameron tennis teams is at the annual UCO Broncho Invitational, April 15-17, in Edmond.
