Lady Aggies turn back Southern Nazarene
LAWTON, Okla. (April 13) - Cameron won two of three doubles matches and picked up a trio of easy singles wins, notching a 6-3 women’s tennis victory over Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at the CU Tennis Complex. Paulina Trujillo and Sandra-Leigh King teamed for a convincing 8-0 win in the No. 3 doubles match, as coach James Helvey’s Lady Aggies improved to 15-5 on the season.
Southern Nazarene, which scored victories over East Central and Central Oklahoma earlier this month, won at the top spots in both singles and doubles. But it was Cameron’s depth that secured the win for the Lady Aggies. Cameron won the Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles matches after winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Southern Nazarene, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, won at No. 1 doubles before winning in the top two singles matches.
Tuesday’s win marked the fifth straight victory for the Lady Aggies. Next action for both Cameron tennis teams is scheduled for this Thursday, as the Aggies and Lady Aggies take part in the annual UCO Broncho Invitational. The multi-team event, which is staged at several locations throughout Edmond and Oklahoma City, is scheduled to continue through Saturday.
