Kansas prep signs with Aggie Volleyball

LAWTON, Okla. (April 14) - Jessica Ammons, a 5-10 setter/hitter from Towanda, Kan., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her volleyball career at Cameron. Ammons, a senior at Circle High School in Towanda, is expected to join the Aggies as a freshman for the 2004 season.

Ammons was a team captain and two-time all-league performer at Circle High, helping lead the Thunderbirds to a pair of sub-state championships, as well as a third place finish at the 2002 Kansas state tournament. She led the team with 355 assists last season and finished third on coach Shelly Nibarger's squad in kills with 146. Ammons also recorded 53 service aces and 59 total blocks in her senior campaign.

"Jessica comes from a successful high school program and we are confident she will be able to make the transition to a successful collegiate program, as well," Cameron head coach Kim Vinson said. "She's a versatile player with good size and quickness and we are excited to have her joining our program in the fall."

Cameron finished the 2003 season tied for first place in the Lone Star Conference North Division, finishing win an overall record of 21-12. The Aggies advanced to the conference postseason tournament for the seventh consecutive year, reaching the tournament semifinals. Five Cameron players received postseason recognition in the conference, including LSC North Division Player of the Year and second team All-American Kelsey Kosick.
