Aggies add four junior college products

LAWTON, Okla. (June 1) - Cameron head softball coach Gladys Crawford has restocked the Aggie roster with a crop of junior college talent. Vernon College teammates Roxie Barnett and Renita Cooley, along with Cassandra Seabolt and Melinda Farrow of Western Oklahoma State College, have signed on with the Aggies for the 2004-05 season.

Barnett is a 5-6 utility player from Wichita Falls, Texas. This season at Vernon, she earned all-conference honors after posting a .364 batting average with 13 doubles, five triples and 36 runs batted in. Barnett also produced a 7-5 pitching record with 44 strikeouts and a 2.43 earned run average.

Cooley was a first team all-conference selection with the Lady Chaparrals. The 5-3 outfielder from Burkburnett, Texas, batted .409 and had 28 stolen bases and committed just one error defensively.

Seabolt joins the Aggies after receiving second team all-conference honors at Western Oklahoma. The speedy third baseman helped the Pioneers to a regional title in 2004, and was an all-conference selection at Bixby (Okla.) High School.

"Fans will have fun watching Casey play," Crawford said. "She plays hard and is a great leader both on and off the field."

Farrow earned all-conference honorable mention in her second season with the Pioneers this year. A 5-7 middle infielder and a product of Binger-Oney High School, Farrow earned Academic All-State honors and helped Binger-Oney to a district championship during her prep career.

"Melinda will make such a difference for us at second base," Crawford said. "She hustles all the time and expects nothing less from everyone around her. She has a great attitude and does everything she is asked to do and will be a very good addition to our team."

Hampered by injuries and using a lineup that included three freshmen infielders, Cameron finished the 2004 campaign with a record of 9-34. The effort was 13 wins shy of the team's 22-20-2 record in 2003, which produced the Aggies' first-ever berth in the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament.
