Aggie Basketball signs four
LAWTON, Okla. -- Cameron men's basketball coach Garrette Mantle has announced the addition of four players expected to add talent and depth to next year's Aggie roster. Brothers Arthur and Nathan Trousdell of New Zealand join Richland Junior College transfer Eric Moore and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M's Bam Harmon as the latest committed to suiting up for the Aggies during the 2004-05 season.
Arthur Trousdell joins the Cameron program after spending two seasons at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. The 6-8 post player was a two-year starter for the Bearcats, averaging 13.8 points and 6.9 rebounds in 34 games. As a freshman, Trousdell led SBU in scoring and was a candidate for Freshman of the Year honors in the competitive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) conference. This season, he led the Bearcats in rebounding and finished third on the team in scoring while earning MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recognition. At Cameron, Trousdell will be reunited with former SBU assistant coach Maury Leitzke, who was recently hired as Cameron's assistant coach. A former professional basketball player in New Zealand, Leitzke is scheduled to officially join the Aggie coaching staff July 1.
Another familiar face on the Aggie bench for Trousdell will be his brother, Nathan. The younger Trousdell recently completed a successful prep career at Havelock North High School in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Nathan was captain of the Hawkes Bay provincial under-20 squad this season, averaging 27 points and 17 rebounds per game. The 6-5 forward was the third-leading scorer at the Australia National Junior tournament and was selected to both the New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks and New Zealand Koru development all-star teams.
Moore spent two seasons at Richland College, earning both all-conference and all-region first team honors as a sophomore this season after leading the Thunderducks to a 23-6 record. The 6-0 guard averaged 15.5 points per game this season after averaging 8 points a game as a freshman. At O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth, Moore was a three-time all-tournament team selection and was named his conference's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring as a senior.
Born in Lawton, Harmon was a high school teammate of current Aggie Marcus Girtmon at The Colony High School in Dallas, where he was an all-district and all-region selection as a senior while averaging 17 points and six rebounds per game. Harmon spent one season at the University of Rhode Island before transferring to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M this season. He averaged 10 points per game, helping the Norsemen to a 25-7 record and a regional runner-up finish. At Rhode Island, Harmon appeared in 21 games, collecting 21 rebounds and 16 points while averaging 5.5 minutes per game.
Cameron finished the 2003-04 season with an overall record of 6-21. Three Aggie players earned All-Lone Star Conference North Division honorable mention honors. For more information on Cameron Basketball, visit the Aggies online at http://goaggies.cameron.edu.
