Aggie Gym renovations near completion

LAWTON, Okla. (June 11) - Improvements to the playing surface at Cameron's Aggie Gym are in the final stages, as workers put the finishing touches on a massive repainting project on Friday.

The court, which was sanded down to bare wood earlier this month, will have a revised color scheme that includes the new official Cameron logos which were unveiled earlier this year.

After the original lines and logos, along with layers of sealant, were removed, more than three dozen damaged pine boards on the court were replaced. NCAA regulation boundary lines for both basketball and volleyball were then painted on the surface, along with gold and black text around the perimeter of the basketball court. "CAMERON UNIVERSITY" now reads across the north sideline of the court, with "AGGIES" appearing on the baseline beneath each basketball goal. The official cameron logo, with Ole Kim weilding a prospector's pick, is at center court. A secondary Cameron mark, as well as the official NCAA logo, also appear on the court.

Reinstated as the Cameron mascot in February 2004, Ole Kim is described as an ex-U.S. Cavalry officer from Fort Sill who sought his fortune in the Wichita Mountains gold rush of the early 1900s before becoming a cowboy, then a Cameron student.
