Aggies dispatch Dallas Baptist

LAWTON, Okla. (Sept. 14) - Cameron needed just one hour and 15 minutes to send Dallas Baptist packing in volleyball action Tueday night at Aggie Gym. The Aggies won by scores of 30-21, 30-15, 30-21, improving to 3-8 on the year.
Cameron dominated every statistical category in the match, limiting DBU to a .095 attack percentage while producing its own season-high .319 hitting mark. The Aggies also out-blocked the Patriots 8-4 and held a 41-30 advantage in total digs.
Senior outside hitter Morgan Meyer led the way for Cameron, posting a match-high 12 kills. Tayler Turner added nine kills and 12 digs, along with three blocks and two service aces. Lawton sophomore outside hitter Ashley Rikard finished with nine kills, as well. Vicki Ibarra handed out 36 assists, while Taran Turner posted four solo blocks.
Jenna Pry led Dallas Baptist with seven kills, while Cameron transfer Rebecca Nycum added 25 assists for the Patriots, who fell to 5-11 with the loss.
Coach Kim Vinson's squad raced to an early 13-3 lead in the opening game and never looked back. Dallas Baptist closed the gap with a 9-1 run midway through the frame, but strong play at the net by Taran Turner and eight kills by Meyer staked the Aggies to a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies again got out to a comfortable lead early in the second set, capitalizing on a Rikard service ace to build a 13-6 advantage. The lead quickly grew to 26-11 and Taran Turner closed out the game with a solo stop at the net to make it 2-0.
Dallas Baptist threatened to send the match to a fourth set, knotting the score at 12-12 midway through Game 3. But a 9-2 Aggie run, capped by back-to-back kills by Turner, made it 21-14. Rikard added two more kills late in the set, as Cameron won its second straight and third in its last five matches.
The Aggies will look to continue the win streak, and avenge a pair of early-season losses, this weekend at the annual Lone Star Conference/Heartland Conference crossover meet in Edmond. Cameron will face St. Edward's University on Friday at 8 p.m., before taking on Drury and Incarnate Word on Saturday at Hamilton Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Cameron returns home Tuesday, Sept. 21, to host Tarleton State in a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m, at Cameron's Aggie Gym.
