Aggies sweep at regional crossover

Cameron win streak reaches five

EDMOND, Okla. (Sept. 18) - The Cameron women's volleyball team pushed its season-high win streak to five matches Saturday, completing a sweep over competition at the annual Lone Star Conference/Heartland Conference crossover on the campus of Central Oklahoma. Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies defeated St. Edward's on Friday before topping Drury and Incarnate Word on Saturday.

The victories upped Cameron's record to 6-8 on the season. Seven of the Aggies' losses this season have come to nationally ranked teams.

Cameron started with a five-set thriller over St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers won the first game of the match and held a 2-1 lead before the Aggies stormed back to take the final two sets. Senior outside hitter Morgan Meyer led Cameron with 24 kills in the match and five Aggies recorded double-digit digs, including 27 by sophomore Tayler Turner. Cameron won by scores of 27-30, 30-27, 22-30, 30-26, 15-12.

Against Drury on Saturday morning, Meyer again paced the Cameron offensive effort with a team-high 15 kills to go along with 17 digs and two service aces. Taran Turner added 13 kills and a .423 attack percentage, while Ibarra dished out 50 assists. The Aggies dropped the first set of the match 30-32, but rallied to win the next three, 30-27, 30-23, 30-28, to take the match.

Saturday evening's matchup with Incarnate Word proved to be a challenge, as well. The Aggies won the opening frame handily, 30-18, but the Cardinals evened the match score with a 30-24 win in the second set and held a late lead in Game 3 before Cameron took the match lead on a kill by Tayler Turner to win the frame, 30-26.

The Aggies got off to a quick 4-1 lead in the fourth set, but quickly fell behind 8-5.  The Aggies answered with kills by Meyer and Taran Turner to regain the lead at 11-10 and back-to-back blocks by sister Tayler gave Cameron a 19-17 advantage. Meyer made it 21-19 with a service ace and added a pair of late kills as the Aggies closed the set on a 7-0 run to take the match with a 30-21 win in Game 3.

Cameron will look to continue the winning streak on Tuesday, hosting Tarleton State University in a matched scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at Aggie Gym. The Aggies will then travel to Abilene, Texas, on Friday to compete in the two-day Lone Star Conference Crossover. Cameron will face Angelo State on Friday, before taking on Tarleton State and host Abilene Christian on Saturday.
