Aggies finish second at Oklahoma Intercollegiate
LAWTON, Okla. (Sept. 21) - Ryan King finished third individually and the Cameron men's golf team took home second place at its own Oklahoma Intercollegiate tournament Tuesday at the Lawton Country Club.
Coach Jerry Hrnciar's Aggies posted a three-round total of 874 to finish 19 strokes behind tournament champion Central Oklahoma, which placed three golfers in the Top 4 of the individual standings.
Lawton native Todd Dayton of UCO shot a two-over-par 73 on Tuesday and held off a charge from teammate Donnie Martin to win individual medalist honors. Dayton finished with a three-round total of 211 (-3), one strong ahead of Martin, who closed with a 71 on Tuesday under hot and breezy conditionas at the 6,444-yard, par-71 track. King finished two strokes out of the lead in a tie for third with UCO's Matt Ellis.
Owen Mahaffey, who won individual medalist honors at last week's West Texas Intercollegiate in Abilene, was the only other Cameron golfer in the Top 10. The Wichita Falls sophomore posted a final-round 75 to finish with a 217 (+4) total. Travis Lovins finished alone in 12th place for the Aggies, firing consistent rounds of 73 - 74 - 73 to finish at 7-over.
Cameron is scheduled to continue fall action on Oct. 4-5, participating in the Grand Canyon Invitational at Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
