Aggie duo picks up weekly conference honors

After leading the Cameron women's volleyball team to four consecutive victories last week, two Aggie players have been recognized for their effort by the Lone Star Conference. Jenny Head has been selected as the LSC North Division Defensive Player of the Week, while Vicki Ibarra was named the division's Setter of the Week.

A 5-6 senior libero, Head picked up her second LSC weekly award this year after averaging nearly six digs per game as Cameron topped Dallas Baptist before storming through the Lone Star Conference/Heartland Conference Regional Challenge with three wins. The Grande Prairie, Alberta, native recorded 35 digs in the Aggies' 3-1 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday, bumping her season average to a conference-best 5.67 digs per game. The mark is well above Head's pace of 4.73 digs per game last season, which established a new school record.

Ibarra dished out an average of 11.44 assists while adding 3.31 digs per game for the Aggies last week. In a four-set win over Drury on Saturday, the San Antonio sophomore reached the 50-assist plateau for the second time this season and the 14th time in her career with the Aggies. Last year's Co-Freshman of the Year in the LSC North, Ibarra is currently tied for seventh in the conference in assists per game and ranks second on the Cameron squad in overall attack percentage, as well.

Cameron will look to continue its winning streak on Tuesday, hosting Tarleton State (12-2) in a match scheduled for 7 p.m., at Cameron's Aggie Gym. Coach Kim Vinson's squad owns a 17-3 advantage in the series with the TexAnns since 1987, including straight-set victories in each of the last three meetings dating back to 2002.
