Aggies jump into national golf rankings
NORMAN, Okla. (Sept. 26) - Following a pair of solid performances to open the fall season, including a team victory at last month's West Texas Intercollegiate, the Cameron men's golf team has cracked the national rankings yet again.
Coach Jerry Hrnciar's squad, which was not ranked in the preseason, jumped to No. 18 in the latest NCAA Division II coaches poll, released last week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
South Carolina-Aiken picked up right where it left off last season in the poll. The defending NCAA Division II national champion holds down the No. 1 spot in the poll, collecting all nine possible first-place votes and a maximum total of 225 points. West Florida is a distant second with 179 points, followed by Chico State (178), Cal State-Bakersfield (176) and Armstrong Atlantic State (159).
Cameron collected 76 points in the poll, two points ahead of No. 19 Northeastern and four points back of 17th-ranked Delta State. The Aggies are scheduled to return to action Oct. 4-5, participating in the Grand Canyon Invitational at Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
