Aggies win LSC North opener over SOSU

LAWTON, Okla. (Sept. 30) - Cameron raced to a 2-0 lead, but needed four sets to dispatch Southeastern Oklahoma in the Lone Star Conference North Division volleyball opener for both teams Thursday at Aggie Gym.

Cameron won by scores of 30-11, 30-20, 26-30, 30-20, to improve to 9-10 overall. Cameron continues conference play on Saturday, hosting Texas A&M-Commerce at 2 p.m.

Coach Kim Vinson's Aggies seized control of the match early, limiting Southeastern to just eight total kills in the opening frame while posting their own team attack percentage of .412. The solid effort continued in Game 2, with Cameron collecting 23 kills and a .333 hitting mark while allowing just seven kills to the Lady Savages.

Southeastern built a commanding lead in the third frame and held off a late Cameron charge to force a fourth set, but the Aggies regrouped to close out the match.

Senior OH Morgan Meyer led all players in the match with 17 kills. Meyer also added 11 digs and a season-high six service aces. Three other Aggies posted double-digit kills, including senior middle blocker Nicole Reinhart. Last week's LSC North Offensive Player of the Week, Reinhart continued her strong play with 13 kills, a .500 attack percentage and a match-high four blocks. Taran Turner added 12 kills and four blocks, as well, while Lawton native Ashley Rikard posted 11 kills.

Tayler Turner collected a match-high 21 digs and setter Vicki Ibarra handed out 45 assists for the Aggies.

Page Foster and Olivia Franceskini recorded 13 and 11 kills, respectively, for SOSU, which fell to 3-16 with the loss.
