Aggies even record, top Texas A&M-Commerce

MATCH BOXSCORE >>

LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 2) - Senior middle blocker Nicole Reinhart had another impressive day at the net and the Cameron women's volleyball team reached the .500 mark in winning percentage for the first time this season on Saturday, topping Texas A&M-Commerce in straight sets.

The Aggies won by scores of 30-17, 30-20, 30-28, to move to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference North Division play. Cameron, which opened the season with six consecutive losses against a collection of nationally ranked teams, also evened its record at 10-10 overall. Texas A&M-Commerce fell to 2-15 and 0-2.

Last week's LSC North Offensive Player of the Week, Reinhart made a case for her second consecutive league award against the Lions. The Rosalind, Alberta, native posted a .481 attack percentage with 15 kills against just two errors in 27 attempts. Reinhart also added four blocks in the match to become one of only two players in the conference this season to average one block per game. In 73 games played so far this year, Reinhart has 73 total blocks, including a dozen solo stops.

Senior outside hitter Morgan Meyer also had a strong offensive effort against the Lions, leading all players in the match with 16 kills on .275 hitting. Meyer also posted a team-high 11 digs. Sophomore Vicki Ibarra dished out 37 assists (12.3 per game). Sophomores Tayler and Taran Turner combined for 18 kills (nine each), seven blocks, eight digs and three of Cameron's four service aces in the match.

Cameron raced to the early lead in the match with solid defense. The Aggies limited Texas A&M-Commerce to just nine kills in each of the first two games and held the Lions to a .074 attack percentage for the match. Cameron, which entered this week ranked second in the conference in team blocking, outblocked its opponent for the sixth time in the last seven contests with a 7-2 advantage at the net.

Texas A&M-Commerce threatened to extend the match with a solid effort in the third set, capitalizing on Cameron errors to pull within one point late in the match. But a serve by the Lions on match point sailed long to give the Aggies their ninth win in their last 11 tries.

Cameron continues LSC North play with a pair of divisional contests next week. The Aggies will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, to take on Midwestern State on Thursday, before continuing on to Denton to face Texas Woman's University on Saturday. Next home action for Coach Kim Vinson's squad is scheduled for Oct. 14, in a key LSC North matchup against rival Central Oklahoma.
